women's volleyball tournament begins Tuesday night
VERONA,
Wis. -- The top six Northern Athletics Conference women's volleyball teams
are set to begin the 2006 Northern Athletics Conference women's
volleyball tournament next week. Two first round matches will take
place the coming Tuesday, October 31 at 7:00pm.
#3 Lakeland College vs. #6 Maranatha Baptist Bible College
The Muskies of Lakeland College (17-13, 8-3 NAC) will host
the Crusaders of Maranatha Baptist Bible College (15-10, 6-5) at
Woltzen Gymnasium on the Lakeland campus. The Muskies defeated the
Crusaders, 3-1 (30-22, 23-30, 30-16, 30-17) at Lakeland on October
10.
#4 Concordia University
Chicago vs. #5 Concordia University Wisconsin
Concordia University Chicago (21-6, 8-3) will host their
sister-school, Concordia University Wisconsin (15-9, 7-4) at
Geiseman Gymnasium in River Forest. The two teams have met three
times this season, with the edge going to the host Cougars 2-1. The
teams split a pair of matches in an opening season tournament, each
winning 3-1. The Cougars won 3-1 (24-30, 30-28, 30-18, 30-24) in the
conference meeting at Mequon on September 20.
#1 Aurora University, #2
Benedictine University receive first round byes
The Spartans of Aurora University (17-11, 11-0) have won 11
straight matches heading into the tournament. The season started out
slow for Spartans going 0-5, but they have come on strong since,
never losing more than two matches in a row.
Benedictine University (17-10,
9-2) has won their last four matches, including eight out of their
last nine. Their only defeat of this stint came to the hands of No.
10 UW-Whitewater on October 12 on the road.
Aurora will host both semifinal
matches and the tournament final next weekend. Semifinal games are scheduled
for Friday, November 3, with Aurora taking on the winner of the
Concordia schools at 5:00pm. Benedictine will play the winner
of Lakeland and Maranatha at approximately 7:30pm in the second
semifinal. The
2006 NAC women's volleyball tournament final is scheduled for 3:00pm
on Saturday, November 4.
