The Dominican men's basketball team set the NCAA Division III men's basketball record for consecutive overtime games played at four.

Dominican Stars set consecutive overtime record
RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Dominican University men’s basketball team set the NCAA Division III men’s basketball record for consecutive overtime games as they played in their fourth straight overtime game last Saturday against Aurora University.

The Stars, who fell to 15th ranked Aurora University 83-80 in overtime on February 10, began their overtime streak with a an 85-78 win over Marian College on February 1. The Stars then split overtime contests with Edgewood College and MSOE, falling to Edgewood 77-76 and knocking off MSOE 68-61, before falling to Aurora. The Stars then snapped their consecutive overtime streak with an 83-70 win over neighborhood and Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) rival Concordia University Chicago on Wednesday.

The previous record for consecutive overtime games at the Division III level was three, a feat achieved eight times and most recently by McMurry University (TX) in 2003. That year, the Indians set the record for overtime wins as they went a perfect 7-0 in overtime contests.

Dominican, currently 15-9 on the season and 11-6 in the NAC, has played six overtime games this season and are 2-4 in those games. The Stars will play their final regular season game this Saturday, February 17, as they travel to Mequon, WI to take on Concordia University (WI). The game is scheduled for a 4:15 p.m. tip-off and with a win the Stars will clinch a spot in the NAC men’s basketball tournament in the conference’s inaugural year. .
