Rockford's Rowe named
National Hitter of the Week Rowe’s efforts were also recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as worthy of top national hitter of the week. This marks the fourth time this season a Regents player has received national attention. Rowe, a physical education major, had a week for the ages. In leading the Regents to a 7-0 week, Rowe hit 14-25, scored 12 runs, notched 20 RBI’s, and connected for six home runs, including two multi-home run games. Rowe’s third home run on Sunday against Lakeland College not only clinched a 13-12 Regents victory, but is also established Rowe as the school’s all-time home run king with 23. Rowe also tops the Rockford College record books for career games, at bats, hits, RBI’s, doubles, and slugging percentage. For the year, Rowe ranks among the best in the conference in home runs (10), RBI’s (47), batting average (.417), and runs scored (40). Rowe also leads the Regents in doubles and walks. Rowe’s prowess can not only be seen in the batter’s box, but in right field as well. Rowe has a .984 fielding percentage, while recording 61 put-outs on 64 chances. The Regents (23-12, 15-4 NAC) currently sit near the top of the Northern Athletics Conference standings and are in position for the school’s first NAC post-season invitation. Rockford will host local rival Beloit College in a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader tonight at RiverHawks Stadium, before traveling to River Forest, IL on Sunday to close out the regular season at Concordia Chicago.
