Rockford lands two players on national list
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Two members of the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Championship Rockford College baseball team received national attention for their performances during the 2007 season. Junior pitcher Fabian Gomez (Las Cruces, NM/Illinois Valley CC) was named to D3baseball.com’s 1st Team All-American list. Along with Gomez, senior Tim Rowe (Eden, WI/Campbellsport) was selected to the Honorable Mention Team. The two Regents were among the top 48 players in the nation that comprised first annual All-American Team.

Gomez, a junior southpaw and physical education major, compiled a 1.93 ERA and a perfect 8-0 record in 14 appearances. Gomez’s 123 strikeouts rank first in NCAA DIII in 2007. The reigning NAC Player of the Year held opponents to a conference best .174 batting average while he also topped the NAC in ERA, strike outs and wins. Gomez currently holds school records for single season wins, strikeouts, strikeouts in a game and innings pitched. Gomez’s selection gives Rockford College their first ever 1st Team All-American honor in school history.

Rowe, a physical education major, hit a stellar .400 on the year. The right fielder’s .750 slugging percentage, 16 doubles and 11 homers ranks him first in the NAC. Rowe’s hitting efforts also ranked him in the top 10 in walks, total bases, RBI’s, batting average, hits and runs.
