Three Rockford players named to the ABCA All-Region Team
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Three members of the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Championship Rockford College baseball team received regional attention for their performances during the 2007 season. Junior pitcher Fabian Gomez (Las Cruces, NM/Illinois Valley CC) and senior outfielder Tim Rowe (Eden, WI/Campbellsport) were selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association’s (ABCA) Central Region 1st Team. Along with Gomez and Rowe, sophomore outfielder Shaun Dascher (Lena, IL/Lena-Winslow) was named to the third team. The three Regents were among the top 50 players in the region listed by the ABCA.

Gomez, a junior southpaw and physical education major, compiled a 1.93 ERA and a perfect 8-0 record in 14 appearances. Gomez’s 123 strikeouts rank first in NCAA DIII in 2007. The reigning NAC Player of the Year held opponents to a conference best .174 batting average while he also topped the NAC in ERA, strike outs and wins. Gomez currently holds school records for single season wins, strikeouts, strikeouts in a game and innings pitched. Gomez’s was also recently named to D3baseball.com’s All-American list as a first team selection.

Rowe, a physical education major, hit a stellar .400 on the year. The right fielder’s .750 slugging percentage, 16 doubles and 11 homers ranks him first in the NAC. Rowe’s hitting efforts also ranked him in the top 10 in walks, total bases, RBI’s, batting average, hits and runs. Rowe is the current school record holder for career games played, at-bats, hits and RBI’s and was also listed as an honorable mention All-American selection by D3baseball.com.

Dascher, a sports management major, batted .391 in the leadoff spot. His 61 hits led the team as well placed him third in the conference. In his first year as a Regent, the Le-Win graduate, ranked in NAC’s top 10 in 8 offensive categories.

The three Regents helped the Rockford earn their first conference title since 1991 and led the team to a school record 29 wins on the year. Rockford narrowly missed an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Regional playoffs.
