Spartans unanimous favorite in women's soccer poll
VERONA, Wis. -- Aurora University received all 13 first place votes in the Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer coaches' preseason poll and are the favorite to win the 2007 title.

The Spartans finished the 2006 season with a perfect 11-0 record in conference play, and earned a trip to the NCAA Division III Championship where they lost to Wheaton College in the opening round. Aurora (17-4-2) returns five of their six All-Conference selections from last year's championship squad.

Edgewood College, which returns last season's NAC Player and Rookie of the Year, Elyse Clouthier (Oconomowoc, Wis.), is tabbed for a second place finish in 2007. The Eagles (12-5, 9-2 NAC) finished last season in a tie for second place with Concordia University Wisconsin (12-9, 9-2), who is picked to place third.

This Friday, August 31 marks the opening day of the 2007 regular season. The Northern Athletics Conference Tournament marks the beginning of postseason play, which is scheduled October 30 through November 3. The NCAA Division III Championship tournament will take place November 7-24.
