Northern Athletics Conference
releases 2008 football schedule Northern Athletics Conference commissioner Dr. G. Steven Larson is looking forward to the new addition to the conference. "The Northern Athletics Conference is very pleased and excited to announce the addition of football as a conference sport beginning in the fall of 2008," said Larson. "Currently our eight football teams are competing in three different conferences. We feel this will be an outstanding opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and institutions to compete on the conference level as members of NCAA III all under one roof. This will create natural rivalries that will generate great fan enthusiasm and add another element to campus life at our institutions." The Northern Athletics Conference waited two years to begin football as a conference sport so the members could give a two-year notice to their current football conferences. Since the formation of the NAC in the fall of 2006 the eight football programs have competed in the Illini-Badger Football Conference, Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Aurora University, Benedictine University, Concordia University Chicago, Concordia University Wisconsin and Lakeland College are currently competing in the IBFC. Maranatha Baptist Bible College and Rockford College are current members of the UMAC, while Wisconsin Lutheran College competes in the MIAA for football. With the addition of football the NAC will now sponsor eighteen NCAA III sports. "We are looking forward to many exciting football Saturdays next fall and in the years to come," remarks Larson. The NAC consists of 13 colleges and universities from the shared-border states of Illinois and Wisconsin making it the third largest conference in NCAA Division III.
