Bunkenburg
notches 200th career win
LISLE,
Ill. -- The Benedictine University men's basketball team presented
head coach Keith Bunkenburg with his 200th career collegiate
coaching victory with its 94-59 win over Rockford College on
Thursday (Feb. 7). Bunkenburg is in his 13th season as the Eagles’
mentor.
"I guess this means I’m getting old," joked Bunkenburg, when asked
about the significance of the milestone. "In all seriousness, no
coach can ever be successful without a combination of quality
student-athletes, assistant coaches who mesh with your coaching
philosophy and a supportive administration. I’ve been very blessed
to have all three of these components during my time at
Benedictine."
Bunkenburg has averaged 16 wins per season during his tenure. He has
claimed four conference titles and made four trips to the NCAA
Division III tournament.
Bunkenburg's 200 wins is second only to legendary Eagles' head coach
Tony LaScala's 385 wins in 29 seasons at the BU helm.
