Eagles to face New York Mets in Florida

, Wis. -- Edgewood College's baseball team will get a chance to step into the batter's box against the big boys when they play the New York Mets in an exhibition game on March 21 as part of their annual spring trip. The Eagles left Madison on Wednesday, and will play three games in Georgia before heading to Florida for six more plus the exhibition game.

The game against the Mets will take place in Port St. Lucie, Fla. at the New York Mets spring training facility. The major league club will be facing the Washington Nationals in a Grapefruit League game, while the Eagles will play against a team assembled from the Mets minor league system.

Edgewood College (2-4) will be in Georgia tomorrow to face 17th-ranked Piedmont College (14-3) and LaGrange College (7-8) on Friday and Saturday. From there, the Eagles will head to Orlando for games against Endicott College (Mass.), Grove City College (Pa.), Plattsburgh State (N.Y.) and Albright College (Pa.).

The Eagles are the preseason favorite in the Northern Athletics Conference and will open their home schedule on Saturday, March 29th with a doubleheader against Marian College. Edgewood College plays their home games at Stampfl Field in Verona..
