Smith stepping down as WLC's head baseball coach
MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- Brook Smith, who has served as the head baseball coach at Wisconsin Lutheran College for the past nine seasons, has announced that he will resign from his coaching post.

Smith, WLC's longest-tenured head baseball coach, served as an assistant coach for three seasons prior to be named head coach in 2000. He is responsible for guiding the Warriors to their only two overall winning seasons (2001, 2002) in program history. In each of those seasons, the Warriors were just one win shy of reaching the NCAA Tournament.

While at WLC, Smith coached a total of 30 players to various all-conference teams, including 12 first team selections. He also mentored the program's first-ever NCAA Division III batting champion and D3baseball.com All-American in Chris Glasel.

"I will remember all of the great players and parents who have supported Warrior baseball since I've been here as well as making back-to-back trips to the conference tournament championship," Smith says. "It has also been a blessing to play on and maintain our own field."

Drafted in 1993 by the San Francisco Giants, Smith pitched three seasons in the Giants' minor league system before spending two seasons playing for Sonoma County, a member of the Western Baseball League.

Smith, who earned his degree in 1998 from WLC, will complete his certification in secondary education at WLC in the fall of 2008, remains as the defensive secondary coach with the WLC football team.
