Regents hoops names new coach
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Rockford College Athletic Director Randy Schrader recently named Jessica Stanek as new Regents' head women's basketball coach. Stanek replaces Steve Cochran, who resigned to take another position. As the 12th head coach in the 36-year history of the program, Stanek takes over a program that finished 15-10 during the 2007-08 campaign.

"Though she may be young in years, we have the utmost confidence that Coach Stanek will continue to grow the women's basketball program," said Schrader. "She brings a wealth of experience as both a player and coach that is beyond her age. We look forward to Coach Stanek being a part of the Rockford College community for many years to come."

A native of Tripoli, IA, Stanek originally joined the Regents women's basketball staff in July 2007 as an assistant coach. Prior to coming to Rockford College, Stanek enjoyed a four-year playing career at Minnesota State University Mankato. A four year scholarship player for the Mavericks, Stanek made the North Central Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll her final three years and was named Mavericks' captain for the 2006-07 season. Once Stanek completed her eligibility, she moved to the coach's box, helping players with post-season workouts. She also coached a 16 and under fast-pitch softball team before moving to Rockford.

Stanek completed her bachelor's degree in Mass Communications with a Coaching minor in May 2007. A resident of Rockford, IL, she is currently working on her master's degree in teaching.

"It's an honor to have the opportunity to be the Rockford College head women's basketball coach," Stanek said after her hiring. "The program has a history of success and I am very happy to be a part of that. We have some great young ladies in our program and I am anxious to get to work helping them to reach their goals, on the court, in the classroom, and in their lives."
